Loving, serving and supporting the youngest members of our community has been a highly valued ministry of Wooddale Lutheran Church for many years. We believe that children and youth play an important role in our faith community and possess a powerful voice as they learn to live out their faith in our wider community. We are committed to walk with them, teach them and learn from them on their journey.
The opportunities available through Wooddale Lutheran to those in the first third of life include…
Sunday School and Vacation Bible School – for preschoolers and elementary students. Sunday school meets most Sundays during the school year from 10:45-11:45. This interactive learning time includes music, art, games, playtime, and storytelling. Vacation Bible School this year will be June 13-17, 2011. Confirmation Ministry - for 7th-9th graders. Students get confirmed in the fall of their 10th grade year. The time of confirmation is a significant time when we are encouraging young people to step even deeper into God’s story. Serving and learning more about our community are especially emphasized through the confirmation experience. Students can enroll anytime. Youth in the Park – high school/young adult ministries and leadership opportunities. Wooddale Lutheran Church has been invited into an exciting collaboration with other local congregations in St. Louis Park called Spark. One of our hopes is to explore how our faith communities can work together with one another and our community to serve and support young people in St. Louis Park and the surrounding communities. High school and recent graduates are invited to participate and encouraged to be leaders in their community through the various projects of the Spark Youth Outreach Initiative. Youth Events and Retreats – for 7th-12th grades. Several events are scheduled throughout the year including several off-site retreats in the fall, winter and spring at various camps in Minnesota and Wisconsin, a Christmas Lock-In and bell ringing for the Salvation Army, a 30 Hour Famine Event, a sleepout for homeless teens. Wooddale Winners – for 4th-6th grades. Quarterly outings and activities are scheduled for our younger students to help build relationships and explore serving the community in various ways. For more info check the calendar or contact Jean at wooddalelutheran.jeano@gmail.com.
Summer Opportunities – for all ages. Camping opportunities are available for 2nd-12th grades at Camp Wapo in Amery, WI. High school service and adventure trips are also available, both to a partner congregation in Huachichil, Mexico and the BWCA. Summer Stretch is a local group of junior high students meeting weekly for service opportunities and fun activites in the Twin Cities. And Vacation Bible School, June 18-22, 2012, involves young and old alike as participants and volunteers for a week of learning and fun. Contact Jean or Kristina!
