Meeting God — In Silence

Sermon given on August 7, 2011, at Wooddale Lutheran Church by Pastor Tim Rauk. Texts are 1 Kings 19:9-12, Matthew 14:22-33 and the hymn, “Now the Silence.”

The activity of God seems so dramatic and clear in the Bible: burning bushes, manna from heaven, angel choirs, walking on water, healing the blind, raising the dead. We like drama. And the Bible gives us more than enough drama to grab our attention. So wouldn’t it be nice, if the voice of God would speak as clearly, as explicitly, and unmistakably, and as unambiguously and dramatically as God seemed to speak in ancient times.
